" All Kids Can Succeed: Effective Interventions for Behavioral and Social Challenges "Dr. Jed Baker

Students/Children on the autism spectrum and those with behavioral challenges often present with difficulty regulating their feelings and interacting socially. This workshop describes how to handle meltdowns and design effective behavior plans to prevent these moments and reduce frustration and anxiety. The second part of the presentation details strategies to motivate students to learn, ways to teach social skills, how to generalize skills into the natural setting and increase acceptance and tolerance from peers. "Cognitive Abilities:  A Different Way of Thinking and Learning Profile" - Professor Tony Attwood

This presentation features the unusual profile of cognitive abilities associated with Asperger's syndrome.  This profile is described with an emphasis on intellectual abilities, problems with executive function (attention, memory and organizational skills) and weak central coherence (difficulty seeing the big picture).  Numerous, practical strategies will be presented to support the student/child with Asperger's syndrome to improve problem solving skills, decrease frustration, improve organizational skills and increase academic achievement.

This entertaining and informative presentation focuses on issues faced by teenagers with Asperger's syndrome, which range from the physical aspects of puberty to changes in friendship, the development of sexuality, the change in academic expectations, issues regarding self-esteem and preparation for employment.  Current, targeted strategies will be presented that can be implemented in the classroom, your practice or home today!
